Evidence Value of Textile Fiber - Transfer and Persistence of Fibers.

چکیده

Fibers comprise probably the most common form of trace evidence in forensic science today. They occur in perhaps one-quarter of all cases that involve trace evidence and a large majority of crime laboratories routinely characterize textile fibers. Although a great deal of research has been done on how to best characterize and compare fibers, relatively little time has been spent on determining the significance of fiber evidence. This article presents a summary of the studies of fiber transfer and persistence and determination of the significance of fiber evidence. This accumulated research and analysis will enable fiber examiners to better interpret evidence in cases where foreign fibers have been transferred during contact between victims and perpetrators of crimes.

The Effect of Percentage of Remaining Hair Bred and Ambient Relative Humidity on Electrical Resistance of Cashmere Fiber

Among different types of controlling systems, the ON/OFF digital relative humidity control was used for measuring electrical properties of cashmere fibers to make the ambient relative humidity fixed. To achieve this goal the required hardware and software were designed and fabricated. The electrical resistance of fine and coarse hair cashmere fiber was measured by charge and discharge condenser...

Redistribution of Fibers in the Structure of Hollow Ring Spun Yarn

Core yarn was spun by introducing a PVA multifilament as the core through the yarn forming zone of a ring spinning frame and viscose fibers as the sheath containing tracer fibers. The water soluble PVA multifilament was extracted from the yarn structure. Then internal structure and properties of the hollow ring yarn was assessed and compared with those of typical ring yarns. Also, two plain fab...

Modeling the Tensile Behavior of Fibers with Geometrical and Structural Irregularities

Virtually all fibers exhibit some dimensional and structural irregularities. These include the conventional textile fibers, the high-performance brittle fibers and even the newly developed nano-fibers. In recent years, we have systematically examined the effect of fiber dimensional irregularities on the mechanical behavior of the irregular fibers. This paper extends our research to include the ...

Mechanical Properties of Irregular Fiber (Invited Review Paper)

Irregularities are inherent to virtually all fibers, including the conventional textile fibers, the high-performance brittle fibers and newly developed nano-fibers. These irregularities can fall into two main categories: dimensional or geometrical irregularity (external) and structural irregularity (internal). For natural fibers such as wool, diameter variation along fiber length is atypical ex...

Examination, Analysis, and Application of Hair in Forensic Science - Animal Hair.

This article reviews the examination of animal hairs and their role in the forensic arena. The forensic examination of animal hair is a well-established discipline and has been so for two centuries. Examination is largely based on microscopy, which may enable the hair analyst to identify a hair as animal in origin, to characterize the hair to a particular species, and to conduct comparative exa...
